How do I attract people to my podcast?
That's the question of the hour isn't it? How indeed. There's the easy answer; have a social media presence. Ensure that you post consistently or through the appropriate medium and format for the platform. But anymore, it's more complicated than just the "post and hope" method. High school was tough for me with that logic too though; I should have seen it coming. Unfortunately, old habits die hard.
Luckily, new habits are growing though. The social kick is predominant. It has to be. #TransactingValuePodcast is on the usual suspects list too though, Facebook; Instagram; LinkedIn; Twitter. Sure I tried my hand at TikTok too, and on occasion it's effective. But video isn't my forte. My favorite style of attraction is a passion for big talk and sharing values-centric conversations with people who have different perspectives than me. So, everyone else. I found a killer audio editor, and so then with consistent audio quality, awesome Contributors on the show, and a good talk, what could go wrong?
A lot. In fact, that plan is far from fool-proof. The good news is that the art of podcasting has to continually develop and evolve. The marketing loosely follows colisseum rules. If the people want to see it, they will and it will then become popular. If they don't, it dies. But then, what's the good news about death? It's also beneficial to see what other shows are doing and what is working for the similarly structured (interviews), themed (values-based conversations), timed (30-40 minutes), episodic top 10% (or whatever metrics match your preferred podcast). Since those apply to #TransactingValuePodcast, and others within the Apple-styled "Society and Culture" vein, I gravitate towards similar shows like "We Can Do Hard Things" with Glennon Doyle or "2 Bears, 1 Cave" with Tom Segura and Bert Kreischer for example.
However, you decide to attract people to your podcast, survival takes communication. Welcome to the team!
